Summary
- Lyft introduces a 60-day driver-relief program offering cash-back incentives.
- Fuel prices have surged over 30% recently, impacting gig worker earnings.
- Top-tier drivers could save up to 94 cents per gallon on fuel.

Ride-hailing company Lyft has announced a temporary driver-relief program in the United States aimed at mitigating the impact of rising gasoline prices on its workers. The program, set to run from March 27 through May 26, offers drivers cash-back incentives and fuel savings.
This initiative comes as fuel costs have surged by more than 30% recently, with the national average price approaching $4 per gallon. These increased expenses, linked to global energy supply disruptions, significantly affect the earnings of gig economy workers.
Under Lyft's program, drivers using the Lyft Direct debit card at eligible gas stations will receive additional cash back on fuel purchases. Top-performing drivers will get an extra 2% cash back, while mid-level drivers will receive an additional 1%, building on their existing rewards.
Lyft stated that the combined savings, including partner offers, could potentially reach as much as 94 cents per gallon for top-tier drivers, based on national average fuel prices. This program mirrors a similar initiative launched by food delivery platform DoorDash.
