LPG Refill Rules Eased: Rural Homes Now Equal to Cities
8 Sep
Summary
- Rural LPG refill booking interval reduced to 25 days.
- The change aligns rural consumers with urban consumers.
- Improved LPG supplies eased previous conflict-driven restrictions.

Cooking gas supplies have improved, leading to a significant reduction in refill backlogs. As a result, the government announced on Monday that the minimum LPG refill booking interval for rural households has been reduced to 25 days, aligning them with urban consumers. This change is effective immediately and is implemented by state-run oil companies including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation.
The revised interval replaces the previous differentiated system, which had a 45-day booking cycle for rural areas and a 25-day cycle for urban areas. These restrictions were initially put in place as a temporary measure to manage demand during a period of strained LPG availability caused by the West Asia conflict.
With the supply situation now stabilizing, emergency measures are being unwound. In June, non-domestic packed LPG supplies were restored, and sectoral restrictions on commercial and industrial consumers were removed. Bulk LPG supplies also saw a partial restoration. Monday's decision removes the final booking timeline differential for domestic LPG consumers nationwide.
