LPG Users Face Deadline Crisis: E-KYC Update Crucial

As the August 31st deadline for LPG e-KYC authentication nears, a significant number of users, estimated at 1.2 million, have yet to complete their updates. Officials indicate that an extension is unlikely, emphasizing the national-level decision required. This situation has led to a scramble for many, with some distributors working extended hours over the weekend to assist customers.

Failure to meet this deadline carries substantial consequences. LPG users risk losing their subsidized rates and having their direct benefit transfers halted. Non-PMUY customers could face commercial rates, which are significantly higher than domestic prices. For instance, the price difference in Delhi could amount to approximately Rs 1,796 per cylinder, based on current market rates. The implications extend to potential temporary suspension of gas connections and booking blocks.

To avoid these penalties, LPG consumers must complete their Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC. This process can be done through the respective mobile applications of Indane, HP Gas, and Bharat Gas. Users need to download the app, register, verify their mobile number, link their LPG account using their LPG ID or by accessing their profile, and then complete a face scan for authentication.
