Louisville drivers should prepare for significant road construction projects continuing through Fall 2027. A major full closure of the I-65 corridor between downtown and I-264 is scheduled for approximately two months in Summer 2026. Additionally, reconstruction and widening work on I-264 near the new Veterans Affairs Medical Center will persist until Fall 2027.
Crews are currently replacing parts of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge, with this phase anticipated to conclude by Fall 2026. Furthermore, Interstate 71 is undergoing a widening project within the city's urban core, expected to wrap up by Fall 2027, though peak travel times will not experience lane closures.
Preliminary work for the I-65 Central Corridor Project began in August 2025, with a projected completion in mid-2027. A project announced in July 2025 involves the reconstruction of the I-264-Brownsboro Road interchange and widening of I-264, with traffic shifts and nightly closures underway. The I-71 widening project also commenced with nightly lane closures in November 2025.
