Bath Community Kitchen, a not-for-profit organization, has received a significant boost of £19,650 from the National Lottery. This funding is instrumental in allowing the organization to expand its services into Radstock, Somerset, ensuring its continued operation and reach.
The financial injection will also fuel crucial programs. These include the 'Cook Like a Chef' initiative, designed for young individuals at risk of homelessness, and the 'Guys Can Cook' program, which supports older men experiencing isolation. These initiatives underscore the kitchen's commitment to community well-being beyond just food provision.
Founded by Rob Lewis, Bath Community Kitchen focuses on building connections, confidence, and a sense of belonging through shared meals. The organization has made a substantial impact, serving over 5,000 individuals at its community meals and hosting more than 3,000 attendees at various workshops, including refugees. Additionally, they have successfully diverted nearly four tonnes of food from landfills.
Lewis emphasizes the dual mission of combating food poverty and fostering community. Volunteer Ellie Rymer highlights the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, where individuals from diverse backgrounds can connect, share experiences, and enjoy nutritious meals. The project also benefits from a £5,000 grant from Groundworks UK Comic Relief Community Fund and support from local businesses.
