Live Nation and Ticketmaster have settled a significant antitrust trial with the Justice Department, avoiding a potential breakup. The agreement, reached less than a week after the trial commenced, includes civil penalties ranging from $200 million to $280 million, to be paid across 40 states. This settlement resolves accusations that the combined entity illegally maintained a monopoly in concert promotion and ticket sales.
Under the terms of the deal, Ticketmaster's long-term exclusivity contracts will be reduced from their previous duration to four years. Furthermore, the company will open its technology to other third-party ticket sellers, allowing venues to allocate a portion of their tickets to competing platforms. The lawsuit, filed in 2024, accused Live Nation of stifling competition and inflating costs, claims the company's lawyers had refuted.
