Work on the final segment of Lincoln's ring road is poised to commence following a substantial government funding confirmation. The Department for Transport has allocated £110m towards the £200m North Hykeham Relief Road project, which has been on the drawing board since the mid-2000s. Construction of the new dual-carriageway, linking the A46 and A15, is scheduled to begin in March, with completion anticipated by May 2029.
The government spokesperson highlighted that the road will significantly improve access to Lincoln, fostering new job opportunities and enhancing road safety by reducing congestion. Lincolnshire County Council leader Sean Matthews described the funding as a "huge milestone," emphasizing the project's expected "huge economic benefits." These benefits include opening up land suitable for 4,500 new homes and commercial spaces. The council will fund the remaining £90m, with contractor Balfour Beatty preparing to start work.
