Quarry Homes Approved Amid Affordable Housing Debate
13 Jan
Summary
- 70 new homes will be built on the site of a former quarry.
- Developer cited high costs for building only six affordable homes.
- Councillors approved the scheme, lacking power to reject it.

Plans for 70 new homes on a former quarry site in Lincoln have been approved, following a debate concerning the number of affordable housing units. Lindum Homes is set to develop the Riseholme Road site, historically known for supplying stone to Lincoln Cathedral. The development faced scrutiny last month when councillors postponed a decision, seeking more details on the developer's affordable housing commitments.
Lindum Homes stated that due to the "abnormal costs" associated with developing the complex site, they could only afford to build six affordable homes, representing 8% of the total. This figure is significantly lower than the usual expectation for new developments to offer 25% affordable housing. Councillors expressed disappointment but acknowledged their legal limitations in rejecting the proposal based on this issue.
