Light, a Texas-based startup, has successfully raised $46 million in Series A funding. This significant investment will empower the company to expand its operations beyond its home state and enter the expansive PJM market, among other ventures. Light's innovative approach focuses on enabling businesses to provide customers with highly personalized and branded retail electricity plans.
Co-founder and CEO Baker Shogry highlighted the dominance of "one-size-fits-all" products in the U.S. retail electricity sector. Light aims to disrupt this landscape by allowing partners to offer unique electricity solutions. The company collaborates with various entities, including solar providers, EV charging services, and multi-family buildings, to create tailored energy plans.
Founded in 2023, Light has now garnered approximately $60 million in total funding. With the addition of credit access, its capital base now exceeds $100 million. The company operates behind the scenes, managing regulatory compliance, power procurement, and billing, thereby opening new revenue streams for its clients.
Existing partners include Palmetto, a solar and battery storage provider, and GoodLeap, which offers residential energy products. Shogry estimates that a substantial portion of U.S. households and businesses have the flexibility to choose their power providers independently. This trend is amplified by rising power demand and costs, making bundled electricity plans increasingly attractive for hardware providers.
