Lego's Creative Play Lab, a division with 237 staff across Billund, London, Boston, and Singapore, has been working for eight years on a revolutionary new product. The Smart Brick, slated for release on March 1st, is a compact, sensor-equipped brick running bespoke software. This advanced technology allows the brick to detect motion, orientation, and magnetic fields, enabling interactive play experiences.
This innovation, spearheaded by Tom Donaldson, senior vice president and head of the Creative Play Lab, is considered by some to be Lego's most significant product since the minifigure's creation nearly 50 years ago. The development involved extensive iterative improvements, with contributions from Cambridge Consultants, aiming to secure the future of the iconic toy brand.
