West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin is set to meet with Leeds Bradford Airport bosses to discuss the proposed parkway station, a project that has been over a decade in the making. West Yorkshire councillors have formally voted to proceed with the railway station plans, which are designed to significantly boost passenger numbers by improving public transport connectivity.
The proposed £65 million parkway station would be situated on the Harrogate line, between Horsforth Station and Bramhope Tunnel, with shuttle buses providing the final link to the airport. This development is viewed as crucial for the airport's growth, addressing the current lack of a nearby station that acts as a "drag" on its expansion.
Beyond transport, the project is anticipated to spur economic development by facilitating the creation of an 89-acre employment hub adjacent to the airport and enabling the construction of new homes. A full business case for the station is expected to take at least two years to complete, involving detailed site investigations and an assessment of potential rail service levels.
