Sumeet Mehta's journey in education began with a personal observation: the profound impact of dedicated teachers. He co-founded a school in Areri, India, in 2012 with his wife, Smita Deorah, focusing on foundational learning improvements.
The early years involved extensive learning and refinement within their own schools, studying global best practices. A key discovery was that improving language proficiency first significantly benefited students struggling with English-taught subjects. This model proved replicable, leading to the development and eventual external offering of the LEAD Learning System by 2018.
Financial backing was secured in 2017, allowing for growth. The Covid-19 pandemic served as an unexpected catalyst, forcing a rapid transition to online learning that expanded their reach dramatically to 1,800 schools and 720,000 students. As of FY25, the Mumbai-based edtech firm reported annual recurring revenue of ₹415 crore and operates with over 8,500 partner schools.
