Prayagraj Station Transformation for Grand Pilgrimage

In preparation for the massive influx of pilgrims expected during Kumbh 2031, Indian Railways is executing a significant infrastructure development plan at Prayagraj Chheoki railway station. The station is slated to become a crucial connectivity hub, enhancing its capacity and improving rail access for millions of visitors from across western, central, and southern India.

The master plan involves remodelling the station yard and constructing two new high-level platforms, Nos. 5 and 6. These platforms will connect directly to the new third railway line towards Manikpur, facilitating seamless train operations and reducing bottlenecks for services to and from Mumbai and Jabalpur.

This upgrade is strategically designed to manage the unprecedented crowd during the Kumbh congregation, improving passenger dispersal and providing direct access to the Sangam area's bathing ghats. The enhanced facilities are expected to significantly alleviate congestion at Prayagraj Junction.

Beyond the religious event, the expanded capacity will allow for operating more trains and accommodating additional halts for long-distance services, benefiting regular commuters long after Kumbh 2031 concludes. Railway officials are prioritizing crowd management and uninterrupted train movement, with associated bridge and connectivity works targeted for completion within a year.
