On November 1, 2025, the state of Kerala will officially declare itself "extreme poverty-free" in a grand ceremony to be held at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala has become the first state in India and the second region in the world to eradicate extreme poverty, defined as the inability to afford even the most basic necessities such as food, shelter, healthcare, and education. This milestone has been reached through concerted efforts by the state government, as confirmed by Local Self-Government Minister MB Rajesh and Education Minister V Sivankutty.
Special programs have been planned across all local self-government bodies in Kerala to simultaneously mark this historic occasion. The state's success in eliminating extreme poverty is a testament to its commitment to social welfare and inclusive development.
