A new international-standard food testing laboratory, the NDDB CALF, has been inaugurated in Kerala, marking a crucial development for the state's dairy industry. Union Minister George Kurian, present at the launch, emphasized the need for dairy cooperatives like Milma to champion Kerala's farmers in preparation for the nation's upcoming second White Revolution. This advanced facility is poised to enhance the quality and safety of dairy products.
The laboratory, a collaborative effort between the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Milma, will operate under stringent international quality benchmarks. Equipped with sophisticated analytical tools and expert scientists, it offers comprehensive testing for milk and dairy products, including microbiological analysis and residue detection. Initially serving Kerala's dairy sector, its services will expand to other food entrepreneurs and neighboring states.
Beyond testing, the center plans to elevate technical expertise in the food sector through specialized training programs for industry professionals and students. NDDB Chairman Meenesh C. Shah highlighted the lab's role in strengthening India's food safety ecosystem and fostering market competitiveness. MP Hibi Eden also advocated for integrating dairy farming into the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
