Prediction market platform Kalshi is set to expand its international business by partnering with financial infrastructure startup Alpaca. This collaboration allows brokerages utilizing Alpaca's technology to access Kalshi's event contracts. As of August 31, 2026, Alpaca has a significant global presence, connecting with over 14 million brokerage accounts. This partnership is expected to speed up Kalshi's entry into new international markets, provided that necessary local regulatory approvals are obtained. Previously, Alpaca registered as a U.S.-licensed futures commission merchant with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Alpaca's move into prediction markets was driven by user demand for event contracts. Tony Lee, chief brokerage officer at Alpaca, stated their mission is to broaden access to financial services globally by following customer demand. Max Crowley, vice president of business development at Kalshi, highlighted Alpaca's reputation and technological capabilities as key factors in the partnership's appeal for global expansion. This follows Kalshi's June 2026 partnership with Canadian firm Wealthsimple. Alpaca also boasts 83,000 monthly API users, indicating a strong developer community for trading software.
Yoshi Yokokawa, co-founder and CEO of Alpaca, acknowledged that international scaling for Kalshi's event contracts will take time. However, he sees substantial opportunity in the potential influx of new traders for prediction markets. He believes this growth will be significant for event contracts as an asset class overall. Both companies anticipate this strategic alliance will be instrumental in developing Kalshi's global business operations.
