JSW, VW Forge New Auto Alliance for Mass Market
5 Aug
Summary
- JSW Group plans a new entity for VW alliance talks.
- Focus on mass-market VW and Skoda vehicles.
- Agreement expected in the coming weeks.

JSW Group is establishing a dedicated new entity to oversee its burgeoning alliance talks with Volkswagen's Indian operations. This strategic move aims to create a standalone company focused exclusively on the mass-market segment.
The proposed venture will center around Volkswagen and Skoda's popular vehicle portfolios, including both traditional internal combustion engine models and emerging new energy vehicles. Excluded from this partnership are Volkswagen's ultra-luxury marques such as Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, and Audi.
Key manufacturing assets, including the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd plant in Chakan, Maharashtra, along with its employees, platforms, sales, marketing, and export operations, are slated for transfer to the new entity. JSW Group aims to secure majority economic interest and leadership within this joint venture.
Both JSW Group and Volkswagen are targeting the finalization of a memorandum of understanding or framework agreement within the next few weeks, potentially by September. This collaboration marks JSW's third major automotive venture and could revitalize Volkswagen's local operations.
