- Merger enhances long products portfolio and Karnataka capacity.

JSW Steel Ltd. has approved the amalgamation of BMM Ispat Ltd. on Thursday, May 14. This strategic union is set to significantly strengthen JSW Steel's long products portfolio and expand its production capacity within Karnataka. The amalgamation plan involves JSW Steel issuing one fully paid-up equity share for every 18 equity shares held in BMM Ispat.
BMM Ispat operates an integrated steel facility in Karnataka, strategically located near JSW Steel's Vijayanagar plant. This proximity is expected to yield substantial operational synergies, including improved logistics, production planning, and raw material optimization. BMM Ispat's facility holds environmental clearances for 2 MTPA and possesses expansion-ready land, facilitating faster capacity increases at a lower investment cost.
This move by JSW Steel is anticipated to enhance its offerings in segments such as TMT bars and billets. The proposed scheme, however, remains subject to approvals from shareholders, creditors, stock exchanges, and the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). JSW Steel separately reported strong operational performance for the March quarter, exceeding revenue and EBITDA estimates.
