Jio Gains 8.3 Million Users, Solidifies Telecom Dominance

In the second quarter of 2025, Jio Platforms, the telecom and digital business of Reliance Industries, has reported a strong performance. The company's net profit rose 12.8% year-on-year, reaching ₹7,379 crore, driven by robust subscriber additions and higher-paying data users.

Jio, the country's top telecom operator, added 8.3 million users during the quarter, exceeding analysts' expectations of around 7 million. This has boosted Jio's overall subscriber base to 506.4 million. The company has continued to gain users from financially stressed competitors, Vodafone Idea and state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL).

Jio's 5G subscriber base has also grown significantly, reaching 234 million as of the end of the quarter, up from 212 million at the end of June. 5G now accounts for 50% of Jio's total wireless traffic, showcasing the rapid adoption of the next-generation technology.

Furthermore, Jio's fixed broadband reach has expanded to 23 million premises, up from 20 million in the previous quarter. The company's FWA (fixed wireless access) subscriber base has also increased to 9.5 million from 7.4 million.

Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom unit under Jio Platforms, reported an 11.9% year-on-year growth in net profit for the September quarter, while its revenue from operations rose nearly 12.4% to ₹31,857 crore.
