JetZero, a California-based aerospace startup, has signaled its intent to secure up to $3 billion in federal financing through a Letter of Interest with the Export-Import Bank of the United States. This substantial funding would support the development of its planned $4.7 billion manufacturing campus located at Piedmont Triad International Airport in North Carolina. The initiative is part of the EXIM Bank's Make More in America Initiative, designed to boost domestic manufacturing.
This potential loan represents a significant step for JetZero's ambitious project, which aims to establish a large-scale aerospace manufacturing hub. The company is committed to creating approximately 14,500 jobs in North Carolina over the next 11 years, with an average wage exceeding $80,000, as stipulated by its state incentive agreement. The proposed campus includes an 8 million square foot manufacturing facility.
JetZero is concurrently developing its innovative 'Z4' passenger aircraft, featuring a blended-wing body design intended for greater fuel efficiency compared to traditional airplanes. The company anticipates its demonstrator aircraft will fly next year. In addition to its commercial aviation aspirations, JetZero also holds a $235 million contract with the U.S. Air Force awarded in 2023. Key components for the demonstrator are being sourced from RTX subsidiaries Pratt & Whitney and Collins Aerospace, with Delta Air Lines partnering for flight operations.
