A family-owned business in Jersey, Holme Grown Farm Shop and Fauvic Nurseries, has closed its doors after a century of operation. Owner Stanley Payne informed staff of the immediate shutdown, citing an inability to fully utilize the sprawling 120-acre site as a significant factor in the decision.
Payne expressed that the business had been facing considerable challenges, describing it as 'swimming against a tide.' He also indicated that the firm had endured unfavorable treatment from successive governments concerning plans for the land. These plans had previously included a proposal to demolish four redundant greenhouses to make way for a nursing home, a development that was denied by planners in 2023. Attempts to reach the States of Jersey for comment have been made.
