Summary
- Wesley Batista Filho to lead JBS, returning family control.
- JBS US division, led by Filho, is its largest by sales.
- Company posted a $102mn net loss in the second quarter.

JBS, the global food conglomerate, is set to see a scion of its founding Batista family take the helm as chief executive. Wesley Batista Filho, aged 34, is scheduled to assume the top role in January, signaling a return of leadership to the controlling family.
Filho currently presides over JBS's US division, which stands as its largest segment by sales. He expressed that his management approach would focus on continuity and furthering the company's established strategy of diversification and expansion into new global markets.
Gilberto Tomazoni, who has led JBS since 2018, will transition to the vice-chair role after a handover period. Tomazoni was the first non-family member to lead JBS following a corruption scandal involving the billionaire Batista brothers.
Despite the leadership change, JBS experienced a net loss of $102mn in the second quarter. However, revenues saw a notable increase of 14 percent, reaching $23.9bn during the same period. The company is also eyeing expansion into Southeast Asia, with a recent $2.5bn investment deal for a joint venture.
