Skyscraper Bid Tops Jax School Property Offers

Summary
- Four diverse proposals compete for school board's Southbank headquarters.
- One bid involves a $2 billion, 1,000-foot skyscraper.
- Other offers include luxury apartments and mixed-use commercial development.

The Duval County School Board is considering four competing proposals for its Southbank headquarters property. Following the collapse of a prior sale in February 2026, new bids have emerged for the waterfront site.
One of the most striking proposals comes from Ade Ogunjobi, envisioning the "5 World Market Tickets Tower." This ambitious 1,000-foot skyscraper would stand as Jacksonville's tallest structure, featuring office spaces, a trading floor, and 10 luxury penthouses. Ogunjobi indicated funding would be secured through various investment methods, including a $20 million cash offer.
However, questions about this proposal's feasibility have arisen, referencing a past Securities Exchange Commission case from 2002. Ogunjobi, who also plans a 2028 presidential run, downplayed the historical legal issue.
Other offers present more conventional development plans. The Bainbridge Companies proposes a $15.5 million luxury apartment community with over 350 units. Ashco submitted two separate bids, one for $16.5 million for the main parcel and another for $9 million for a portion of the property, though specific development plans are unspecified.
