Jamshedpur's PMAY Project Nears Completion, Beneficiaries Await New Homes

As of November 2, 2025, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) is making final preparations to hand over 644 ready-to-occupy flats in the Birsanagar area to beneficiaries of the Prime Minister's Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme. The housing project, spanning 48 acres and comprising 9,592 flats across 23 blocks, has seen construction progress in Blocks 8 and 23, which hold the 644 completed units.

JNAC officials have intensified efforts to make the housing campus livable before the official handover. They have approved nearly 1.5 km of internal road construction work, and the electricity department is installing eight 500 KVA transformers to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Water facilities are also being prepared, with a four-lakh million-liter-per-day overhead tank constructed for each block, supplemented by two borewells and a sump.

While the 644 flats in Blocks 8 and 23 are ready, work in the remaining blocks is progressing slowly. A lottery was conducted among 5,366 applicants, selecting 644 beneficiaries for the completed units. Around 300 beneficiaries have already deposited the full payment of Rs 4.31 lakh, while others are still completing their installments. However, nearly 350 files are currently pending for loan approval in banks, causing significant delays for the beneficiaries.

Despite these hurdles, JNAC officials remain confident that all pending works will be completed by the end of December 2025, paving the way for the beneficiaries to move into their new homes at the beginning of 2026.
