Summary

- Field expansion aims to boost annual gas deliveries significantly.
- Projected expansion will supply Egypt and potentially Europe with natural gas.

The offshore Leviathan gas field in Israel has resumed operations following a month-long shutdown. Operations recommenced on April 2 after a review by the Israeli energy ministry deemed it safe.
The field, operated by Chevron, had been halted since February 28 due to security assessments. The ministry stated that the return to operation will increase the supply of natural gas to the local market.
Leviathan is recognized as one of the largest gas fields in the Eastern Mediterranean, holding an estimated 635 bcm of recoverable gas. In January, Chevron and its partners approved a significant expansion project.
This expansion is set to enhance Leviathan's gas deliveries by 9 billion cubic metres annually, reaching approximately 21 bcm. The project is designed to supply Egypt and potentially Europe with liquefied natural gas, valued at over $35 billion.
