IRCTC Ticket System Handles Record 2 Million Bookings

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) achieved its highest-ever single-day ticket booking volume on September 7, recording over two million reservations. This unprecedented surge saw 20,06,353 tickets booked, exceeding the previous record set during the last festive season. The system also handled a substantial 19,50,699 bookings on September 8, highlighting peak demand.
These record numbers were facilitated by extensive upgrades to the Next Generation e-Ticketing (NGeT) system. Enhancements included infrastructure overhauls, a new user interface, and advanced measures to combat automated bot traffic, which reduced malicious traffic by 55% to 65%. Consequently, the overall system capacity has been effectively doubled, ensuring stability and reliability.
The NGeT platform now manages millions of logins and up to two million bookings daily during the Advance Reservation Period (ARP). Despite exceptional concurrent demand, the system has maintained full operational integrity without any failures or outages, underscoring its enhanced robustness and performance during critical booking windows.
