Iraq Oil Exports Halted: Kurdish Conditions Block Crude Flow
15 Mar
Summary
- Kurdish oil ministry refused to resume exports, citing irrelevant conditions.
- Iraq is ready to resume exports of up to 300,000 barrels via Ceyhan.
- Southern oilfield production dropped 70% amid export difficulties.

Iraq's oil ministry reported on Sunday that the Kurdish Ministry of Natural Resources has currently refused to resume oil exports. The ministry stated that the Kurdish side has imposed conditions not pertinent to crude oil exports. Baghdad has indicated its readiness to recommence exports of a limited volume, not exceeding 300,000 barrels per day, utilizing the Ceyhan pipeline for transit to Turkey.
This situation arises as oil production from Iraq's primary southern oilfields has experienced a substantial downturn. Sources revealed on March 8 that output from these fields, which are crucial for the country's crude production and export, has plummeted by 70%. Production levels have fallen to just 1.3 million barrels per day.
