Air Travel Chaos: Iran Conflict Halts 27,000 Flights
6 Mar
Summary
- Over 27,000 flights canceled due to Iran conflict impacting West Asia hubs.
- Dubai International Airport shut for six days, stranding thousands.
- Indian carriers IndiGo and SpiceJet face daily losses in millions.

The security situation in Iran has severely impacted global air travel, causing over 27,000 flight cancellations to major hubs in West Asia. Dubai, one of the world's busiest international airports, has been non-operational for six days due to Iranian drone attacks.
These airspace closures have stranded hundreds of thousands of passengers and significantly disrupted operations at key transit points like Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi. Indian airlines are facing considerable financial strain, with IndiGo reporting daily losses of 4 to 5 crore rupees and SpiceJet losing 25 to 35 lakh rupees.
The conflict's impact extends to market capitalization, with listed airlines seeing an 11 percent drop. Air India is experiencing up to a 40 percent operational disruption. Airlines are compelled to reroute flights, adding thousands of kilometers and two to four hours to journeys from Europe to India.
Consequently, jet fuel prices have surged to their highest point since 2022, further exacerbating the financial pressure on the aviation industry during this period of heightened conflict and restricted airspace.
