19 Jul
Summary
- SBI Funds Management IPO subscribed 41.66 times, boosting market sentiment.
- 177 companies approved to raise nearly Rs 2.94 lakh crore via IPOs.
- Fundraising via IPOs is down 34% year-on-year despite recent success.

The initial public offering (IPO) market has seen a significant uplift following the SBI Funds Management issue, which was subscribed 41.66 times. This strong performance has generated optimism for other major listings anticipated in the latter half of 2026, including NSE and Jio Platforms. The IPO pipeline remains robust, with 177 companies already approved by Sebi to raise nearly Rs 2.94 lakh crore, and an additional 71 companies seeking Rs 1.84 lakh crore awaiting clearance.
Despite the SBI Funds Management success, the primary market has experienced a slowdown, with companies raising Rs 34,343 crore through IPOs in 2026, a 34% decrease from the same period last year. Market experts believe that well-priced IPOs, like the SBI Funds issue, improve investor participation and sentiment. Sebi's relaxed listing norms, allowing larger issuers to divest a smaller percentage of equity initially, are also expected to benefit upcoming large IPOs.
Analysts note that the slowdown in the first half of 2026 was partly due to market corrections and foreign institutional investor outflows. However, optimism remains for quality issuers with strong fundamentals and clear growth prospects. Factors like stable crude oil prices, positive corporate earnings, and a dovish US Federal Reserve policy are expected to support sustained investor demand and potentially accelerate IPO activity in key sectors.
