IPO Market Resilient Amid Global Turmoil
4 Mar
Summary
- Global conflicts won't completely halt IPOs.
- Good companies can always go public despite turmoil.
- NYSE sees potential in prediction markets with regulation.

Global conflicts, such as recent strikes on Iran, are not expected to completely halt companies from accessing the US public markets. Lynn Martin, President of NYSE Group, emphasized that geopolitical events are a continuous factor, but robust companies can still successfully launch initial public offerings.
Martin reiterated her view that companies choosing to remain private for longer periods often emerge stronger and better prepared for public trading. She also expressed the NYSE's interest in venturing into prediction markets, provided that a suitable regulatory framework is established.
Furthermore, NYSE's parent company, Intercontinental Exchange Inc., has seen success with its investment in the crypto-based betting platform Polymarket, focusing on data distribution and market sentiment indicators. The NYSE is also developing a blockchain-based venue for around-the-clock trading of tokenized assets.
