Summary
- Single infusion cut HAE attacks by 87% and made 62% attack-free.
- Intellia targets a U.S. launch for lonvoguran ziclumeran in 2027.
- Wider platform potential exists for transthyretin amyloidosis.

Intellia Therapeutics, Inc. has achieved a significant milestone with its in vivo CRISPR treatment, lonvoguran ziclumeran, for hereditary angioedema (HAE). A single infusion demonstrated an 87% reduction in HAE attacks compared to placebo and rendered 62% of patients attack-free, with no serious adverse events reported. This success marks the first successful Phase 3 trial for an in vivo CRISPR therapy.
The therapy edits genes directly within the body, a technological advancement that could establish a framework for future gene-editing treatments. Despite investor concerns about commercialization, Intellia has initiated a rolling Biologics License Application, aiming for a U.S. launch in the first half of 2027.
Beyond HAE, Intellia is exploring its platform for transthyretin amyloidosis, a condition affecting an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 patients globally. The company's success with lonvo-z is expected to de-risk its entire in vivo CRISPR platform, positioning Intellia to capitalize on the expanding gene-editing market.
