Hybrid Demand Fuels Ingevity's Profitability
31 Jul
Summary
- Adjusted EBITDA rose nearly 14%, with margins hitting 36.6%.
- Performance Materials saw margins near 54% due to hybrid vehicle demand.
- Planned outages and weaker auto production to impact second-half results.

Ingevity reported robust financial results for its second quarter, with adjusted EBITDA growing by nearly 14% and margins reaching 36.6%. The Performance Materials division exhibited exceptional strength, achieving EBITDA margins close to 54%, largely attributed to the increasing demand for hybrid vehicles, which utilize advanced carbon solutions.
Pavement Technologies saw a 3% increase in growth, excluding divestitures, and its EBITDA margin expanded by 300 basis points to 24.4%. Advanced Polymer Technologies also demonstrated substantial improvement, with EBITDA rising significantly to $11 million from $2 million in the prior year. The company also secured its first municipal water treatment contract for PFAS filtration, validating its technological advancements.
Looking ahead to the second half of 2026, Ingevity anticipates some headwinds. Planned maintenance outages at two Performance Materials facilities and a projected slowdown in North American auto production are expected to impact profitability. Additionally, higher asphalt prices have caused delays in projects in China and South America, while inventory build-up for automotive demand and seasonal pavement needs may partially offset free cash flow.
