Indore Petrol Panic: Fuel Stations Dry Amid Crisis Fears
24 Mar
Summary
- Panic buying caused chaos at Indore fuel stations on Tuesday.
- Petrol Dealers' Association confirmed lower fuel supply than usual.
- District officials denied any genuine fuel shortage in the city.

A wave of panic gripped Indore on Tuesday, with rumours of petrol shortages linked to the West Asia crisis triggering chaos at fuel stations. Long queues of two-wheelers and cars formed across key areas as citizens rushed to refill their tanks, fearing a complete depletion of supplies.
The situation escalated with panic buying, leading to some petrol pumps running dry and increasing pressure on outlets. The Petrol Dealers' Association president confirmed that fuel supply was lower than usual on Tuesday, with fewer tankers reaching some pumps due to unspecified reasons, causing temporary shortages.
However, District Supply Controller Mohan Maru dismissed concerns, asserting that Indore has adequate fuel stocks and there is no reason for panic. Despite official assurances of sufficient supply, ground reports indicated dry pumps and rising anxiety among residents, widening the gap between official claims and public experience.
Experts suggested that panic-driven demand spikes can create artificial shortages even when overall supply is stable. Authorities and dealers urged citizens not to fall for misinformation and to avoid unnecessary hoarding, expecting the situation to stabilize soon.
