IndiGo's Mumbai Shift: 12 International Flights Move!
25 Oct
Summary
- IndiGo to move 12 international departures from Mumbai by February 2027.
- Navi Mumbai airport will handle these flights and a new Kathmandu route.
- A previous, larger transfer plan was deferred due to airline concerns.
IndiGo is set to transfer 12 daily international flight departures from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to the Navi Mumbai International Airport. This strategic move is scheduled to commence in February 2027, following the deferral of a larger relocation plan due to airline opposition. The initial phase will encompass all current international services to destinations such as Bahrain, Riyadh, and Jakarta. Additionally, a new daily flight to Kathmandu will bring the total international network at Navi Mumbai to 12 destinations between February and July 2027.
This transition will involve some domestic flight adjustments to ensure seamless connections for international passengers. The companies are currently finalizing these transfer arrangements. By shifting these operations, IndiGo aims to unlock capacity at CSMIA for launching new international services across Asia, Africa, and Europe in 2027, leveraging its growing fleet. The relocation also supports the necessary capacity cuts for CSMIA's Terminal 1 redevelopment, targeted for completion by 2030.
An earlier proposal by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) to move 265 weekly international departures from October 25, impacting approximately 46 airlines, was deferred. Airlines had voiced concerns about passenger convenience, schedules, and consultation processes. The Civil Aviation Ministry intervened, requesting MIAL to postpone the move and negotiate an agreed transition. As a result, existing international flight allocations at CSMIA will remain unchanged through the winter schedule, ending March 27, 2027.
Navi Mumbai International Airport, inaugurated in October 2025, began commercial operations on December 25, 2025. International flights commenced on July 15, 2026. The airport, developed at a cost of approximately Rs 19,650 crore, is designed with four terminals, two parallel runways, and an Automated People Mover system. The Adani Group holds a controlling stake in both CSMIA and Navi Mumbai International Airport.
