India's Grid Boom: Transformer Oil Demand Soars
20 Aug
Summary
- India plans ₹9 lakh crore investment for power grid expansion.
- Global transformer oil market to reach $7.5 billion by 2033.
- Two companies, Savita Oil and APAR Industries, lead the market.

India is set to invest approximately ₹9 lakh crore to enhance its national power transmission grid, creating a significant demand for transformer oil. Globally, the transformer oil market, valued at $2.9 billion in 2025, is anticipated to grow to $7.5 billion by 2033. India's push for 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, along with increasing power needs from manufacturing and urbanization, fuels this expansion.
Two prominent companies, Savita Oil and APAR Industries, are positioned to capitalize on this growth. Savita Oil, a manufacturer of specialty petroleum products, has a strong presence in transformer oils and a wide international distribution network. APAR Industries operates across conductors, specialty oils, and cables, with its transformer oil division showing significant revenue growth.
Both companies reported strong financial performances in Q1 FY27. Savita Oil saw a surge in net profit due to increased product prices and inventory gains. APAR Industries' transformer oil division also experienced substantial revenue growth, driven by higher energy prices, though it is strategically pivoting to a just-in-time supply model.
