Rabi Sowing Surges Ahead of Last Year
24 Nov
Summary
- Winter crop area is expected to surpass last year's coverage.
- Wheat planting has increased significantly compared to the previous year.
- Total rabi crop sowing area is higher than last year's progress.

The government anticipates that the total area under winter (rabi) crops will surpass last year's figures. Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi stated that rabi sowing is progressing well, exceeding last year's pace despite some delays due to late harvesting in certain regions. Favorable rainfall has contributed to this positive trend.
Official data reveals a significant increase in the planting of wheat, the primary rabi crop, with 66.23 lakh hectares sown by November 17, up from 56.55 lakh hectares in the prior year. Similarly, acreage for pulses and oilseeds has also seen an uptick, demonstrating robust farmer participation.
Overall, the total area sown across all rabi crops stood higher at 208.19 lakh hectares as of November 17 this year, compared to 188.73 lakh hectares in the corresponding period of the previous year. This upward trend signals a promising winter harvest.
