India's Grid Upgrade: Power Stocks Surge 4X
30 Jul
Summary
- Transformer market to reach $8.2 billion by FY29.
- CG Power's transformer capacity growing aggressively.
- Global demand for transformers is very strong.

India is investing approximately ₹9 lakh crore in transmission infrastructure by 2032, creating substantial opportunities for power equipment suppliers. The domestic power transformer market is expected to surge from US$3.3-3.4 billion in FY25 to US$8.2-8.5 billion by FY29.
Global transformer manufacturing capacity is facing shortages, compounded by rising investments in clean energy, grid modernization, and data centers. This favorable demand-supply dynamic provides strong earnings visibility for several companies.
CG Power is aggressively expanding its transformer capacity, aiming for accelerated completion of a new plant within 12 to 14 months. The company also commissioned a new Extra-High Voltage (EHV) switchgear facility in Nashik, Maharashtra, increasing EHV capacity by 80%.
Transformers and Rectifiers (TARIL) is increasing its transformer manufacturing capacity and backward integration to enhance supply chain efficiency. The company has an unexecuted order book of ₹6,630 crore, with plans to grow its top line to ₹8,000 crore by FY29.
Atlanta Electricals has quadrupled its manufacturing capacity over the past 18 months and is constructing a new plant for Inverter-Duty Transformers to target demand from renewable energy and EV charging infrastructure.
All three companies are poised to benefit from the transmission capex cycle, with CG Power offering scale, TARIL focusing on capacity expansion and margin improvement, and Atlanta emerging as a high-growth pure-play manufacturer.
