India's Mustard Crop Soars: Production Boost Expected

India's rapeseed-mustard crop is set for a strong performance in the 2025-26 season, with production estimated at 119.4 lakh tonnes, marking a 3.64% increase from the previous year. The cultivated area has expanded to 93.91 lakh hectares. This output boost is driven by a slight rise in yield to 1,271 kg per hectare, supported by favorable weather and improved farming techniques.

Rajasthan remains the top mustard-producing state, with an estimated output of 53.9 lakh tonnes. Uttar Pradesh and Haryana also show increased production, while Madhya Pradesh has seen a slight decline. The Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) highlights this growth as a testament to improved practices and policy support, crucial for enhancing domestic edible oil supplies and reducing import dependence.
