15 Jul
Summary
- Unemployment rate remained at 5.5% in June.
- Female labor force participation above last year.
- Urban labor market activity showed a modest improvement.

India's labor market exhibited remarkable stability throughout June, with the unemployment rate consistently at 5.5%. This resilience was further underscored by unchanged overall labor force participation rates for individuals aged 15 and above, which stood at 54.4% in June.
Female labor force participation, a key indicator, remained above its year-ago figures. While there was a marginal month-on-month decrease, the rate of 32.7% in June was a significant improvement from 32.0% recorded in June of the previous year.
Improvements were also observed in urban areas, where the labor force participation rate increased, and the Worker Population Ratio saw a slight uptick. Rural unemployment experienced a marginal decrease, contributing to the steady employment landscape across the country.
