30 Sep
Summary
- India's smartphone exports rose 36% to $15.96 billion.
- iPhones accounted for 98% of the increase in smartphone exports.
- Media industry now prioritizes attention, data, and technology.
India's electronics exports experienced a substantial rise, with smartphone shipments leading the charge. During the April-August period, total smartphone exports climbed by approximately 36% year-on-year, reaching $15.96 billion. A remarkable 98% of this increase was driven by iPhone exports, which alone amounted to $13.2 billion in the first five months of the fiscal year, showing a nearly 47% rise from the previous year.
This surge in Apple's performance is attributed by analysts to government manufacturing incentives. Beyond Apple, other manufacturers like Samsung and Dixon also contributed to smartphone exports, alongside third-party suppliers, collectively pushing total electronics exports up by 34% to $26.66 billion.
Concurrently, the media and entertainment industry is redefining its growth strategy. Executives at Ficci Frames highlighted a paradigm shift towards an 'attention economy,' where success hinges on integrating content, technology, and data. Companies are increasingly investing in data, AI, and developing intellectual properties (IPs) rather than solely acquiring rights.
The focus is now on personalized content, capturing audience attention, and monetizing intent. This evolution is crucial as attention spans shorten, necessitating new metrics for content success and exploring innovative monetization formats. Connected TV and regional content are emerging as key growth drivers in this dynamic landscape.
