29 Jun
Summary
- Industrial output grew 5.1% in May, boosted by electricity generation.
- Manufacturing growth slowed due to supply disruptions.
- Consumer durables output saw a significant rise in May.

India's industrial production expanded by 5.1% in May, a notable increase compared to the previous month. This growth was largely propelled by a substantial 9.9% rise in electricity generation.
While the overall industrial output showed strength, the manufacturing sector experienced a slowdown. This moderation is attributed to supply chain issues stemming from the conflict in West Asia.
Key segments within industrial output demonstrated varied performance. Capital goods output saw a robust increase of 12.9%, while consumer durables, including vehicles and electronics, grew by 7.2%. Consumer non-durables also saw positive growth.
Mining activity, however, contracted by 1.6% during May, indicating a downturn in that particular sector. The overall industrial output for April-May grew by 5.1%.
