2 Aug
Summary
- July GST collections increased 15.4% year-on-year to over ₹2.11 lakh crore.
- Import GST surged 28.8%, a major driver of the overall revenue growth.
- Domestic consumption GST collections also showed healthy 10.1% growth.

India's gross goods and services tax collections for July demonstrated a robust 15.4% year-on-year increase, reaching over ₹2.11 lakh crore. This significant revenue growth reflects resilient economic activity across the nation.
The primary contributor to this surge was the GST collected on imports, which experienced an impressive 28.8% rise. Experts attribute this to factors including higher merchandise imports, currency depreciation, and elevated global energy costs.
Alongside import growth, domestic GST collections also showed strong performance, growing by 10.1%. This indicates sustained household consumption and industrial activity, suggesting the domestic economy is becoming insulated from external pressures.
Key manufacturing states, including Maharashtra and Gujarat, reported increased GST mop-ups. Despite substantial refund payouts, net GST collections climbed by 15.8%, underscoring the positive revenue trend.
