India Takes Flight: Ethanol to Jet Fuel Production Begins
29 Jan
Summary
- India set to produce 80,000 TPA of sustainable aviation fuel.
- Ethanol-to-Jet technology converts renewable ethanol into SAF.
- Project aligns with India's self-reliance and net-zero goals.

TruAlt Bioenergy Limited will employ Honeywell UOP's Ethanol-to-Jet (ETJ) process technology to establish one of India's first dedicated sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facilities. The plant is slated to produce 80,000 tonnes per annum of SAF using ethanol derived from renewable sources.
This initiative marks a significant step in advancing India's net-zero goals and fostering self-reliance in the energy sector. Honeywell's ETJ technology offers a cost-efficient pathway for SAF production and can also yield renewable diesel, benefiting road transport emissions.
The collaboration aligns with the Indian government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, promoting domestic biofuel production and increasing demand for bioethanol. It aims to connect Indian farmers directly to the global aviation decarbonization agenda through a scalable, ethanol-based SAF pathway.
