Summary

- India navigated recent global shocks with strong economic fundamentals.
- Future priorities include resource security and innovation for growth.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that India's economic resilience has been deliberately cultivated over the last ten years. This resilience is founded on fiscal prudence, significant infrastructure development, banking sector reforms, and effective last-mile service delivery.
Sitharaman emphasized that resilience allows India to absorb shocks without derailing its growth trajectory and maintain policy flexibility. She cited India's successful navigation of recent global disruptions, pointing to strong economic fundamentals as evidence. Specific data shared included a 7.8% real GDP growth in Q1 FY27 and CPI inflation at 4.82% in August 2026.
The minister detailed the foundational elements of this resilience, including the Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile trinity and Direct Benefit Transfer. Reforms in the banking sector and substantial growth in non-food credit were also noted. Infrastructure advancements were highlighted, with a significant increase in capital expenditure and expansion of national highways.
Looking forward, Sitharaman identified strategic resource security and open global trade as key priorities. She stressed the importance of reducing single-source dependencies, particularly for critical minerals and semiconductors. India must continue strengthening its economic foundations to achieve higher productivity and ensure broader opportunities for its citizens on the path to Viksit Bharat by 2047.
