Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met with his Economic Advisory Council to discuss strategies for enhancing India's economic growth and formulating long-term development plans. The discussions also covered accelerating reforms and improving the ease of doing business and living for citizens.
This high-level meeting occurred shortly after the government and the Reserve Bank of India introduced measures to strengthen the rupee and encourage foreign investment. These steps included tax exemptions for overseas investors and broadened investment opportunities.
India's economy demonstrated robust performance, achieving 7.8% growth in the March quarter and a projected 7.7% for the fiscal year 2026. However, the RBI has adjusted its FY27 growth forecast downwards to 6.6%, citing potential impacts from the West Asia conflict and a forecasted weak monsoon.
Discussions also addressed the economic implications of the West Asia conflict, supply chain disruptions, and currency depreciation. In response to global uncertainties, the Prime Minister has urged citizens towards austerity measures and promoted organic farming.
