The Indian government is considering a major expansion of its Digital Agriculture Mission (DAM), with the upcoming Union budget likely to allocate ₹7,500 crore for the FY27-FY30 period. This represents a substantial 166% increase over the initial allocation.
The initiative focuses on deploying artificial intelligence and digital technologies to improve real-time decision-making for Indian farmers concerning weather, soil conditions, irrigation, and pest management. This strategic investment aims to elevate farm productivity and curtail losses in a sector crucial to India's economy and workforce.
The expanded DAM, with the Department of Agriculture as the nodal agency, intends to establish a robust digital agriculture ecosystem. This includes creating digital public infrastructure like AgriStack and the Krishi Decision Support System (KDSS), alongside a comprehensive soil fertility map.
