India's First Bullet Train: August 2027 Launch Nears

Construction on India's first high-speed rail corridor, connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad, is advancing with an expected launch in August 2027. Significant progress is visible at key stations along the 508 km route.
In Mumbai, the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station, the corridor's starting point, is undergoing complex underground construction, with excavation and foundation work nearing completion. This segment is technically challenging due to its depth.
Meanwhile, Surat station in Gujarat has completed its structural framework and roofing. Interior finishing, including flooring and cladding, is now underway. The station's design pays homage to Surat's diamond industry.
The corridor will traverse Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, featuring 12 stations designed to reflect local character. Trains are anticipated to reach speeds of 320 km/h, covering the distance in approximately two hours. Phased operations may begin before the full corridor's launch.
The project, which began with the laying of the foundation stone in September 2017, aims to modernize India's rail infrastructure, reduce travel times, and enhance passenger experience, supporting sustainable economic development.
