India's Banks to Shutter for Weeklong Festive Shutdown

Beginning on September 29, banks in cities like Agartala, Kolkata, and Guwahati will be closed for Mahasaptami, the first day of Durga Puja. The closures will then spread to other major hubs like Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, and Ranchi on September 30 for Maha Ashtami. October 1 will see banks shuttered in over a dozen cities for Mahanavami, Dussehra, and Vijayadashami.
The nationwide closure will come on October 2, India's Gandhi Jayanti holiday. All banks across the country will be shut down on this national holiday. The bank holiday spree will continue on October 3 and 4 in Gangtok for Durga Puja, and then on October 5, which is a weekly Sunday closure.
This extended period of bank shutdowns is expected to cause disruptions for customers needing to conduct cash transactions. However, online banking, UPI, and other digital services will remain operational throughout. Customers are advised to plan ahead and make necessary cash arrangements before the holidays begin.
