India is solidifying its position as a leading nation in artificial intelligence, attracting substantial investments from global technology firms. Microsoft announced its largest Asian investment to date, a US$17.5 billion commitment over four years (2026-2029) to enhance India's cloud and AI infrastructure.
Following this, Google revealed plans for a US$15 billion investment over five years (2026-2030) to establish a comprehensive AI ecosystem, aligning with national development goals. Equinix Inc. also expanded its data center presence in Mumbai.
India's attractiveness stems from lower infrastructure costs compared to Western nations, increasing AI demand, data localization rules, and renewable energy availability. This has led to a boom in AI data center development.
Key Indian companies are benefiting from this trend. Netweb Technologies, a domestic provider of high-end computing systems, saw its AI segment revenue surge by 459.6% in FY26. HFCL, a major player in optical fiber cables, is expanding its capacity to support rising network demands.
KRN Heat Exchanger and Refrigeration is capitalizing on the need for advanced cooling solutions in data centers, with 15% of its Q3 FY26 revenue coming from this segment. Cummins India is a crucial supplier of backup power solutions for data centers, with this sector contributing significantly to its power generation revenue.
