India is implementing a focused strategy to dramatically expand its textile exports, with a goal of reaching $100 billion in overseas sales. This initiative targets 15 high-income nations, including the United States and Qatar, aiming to capture significant market share. The global textile market stands at an estimated $900 billion, and India expects to secure preferential access to approximately $540 billion of this.
The government also plans to double the domestic textile market's value. To support this growth, 100 champion and 100 aspirational districts are being developed as textile export hubs. The nation is promoting value-added products and finished garments over raw materials.
Investments of nearly $50 billion are required, with the government promoting new-age and technical textiles. Technical textile exports already contribute $3.3 billion, with applications across critical sectors like aerospace and healthcare. Free trade agreements, especially with the EU and UK, are considered vital for enhancing competitiveness.
